Depending on the source, Indianapolis is either the 13^th largest city in the country or the 29^th largest metropolitan area. You can slice that cake either way, but Indy is certainly large enough to offer plenty of things to do and a great variety of people to ensure it’s a great place to visit. Some obvious events include the following for race fans: the Indianapolis 500, the Allstate 400 in the Brickyard, the United States Grand Prix, the NHRA U. S. Nationals. 

Accommodations
A wide selection of choices are available throughout the region. The Canterbury Hotel is an impressive 13-story European-style hotel located downtown and adjoins Circle Centre. The Hilton Garden Inn is downtown and is within a half-mile of Conseco Fieldhouse and the RCA Dome.

Restaurants
Agio Restaurant and Bar offers intimate dining with a creative menu. Alcatraz Brewing Company is a fun place to go. Both places are less than a mile from Monument Circle, a central point in town. Shopping
Downtown shopping was revitalized in 1995 with the opening of the Circle Centre and the shopping complex includes 100 specialty shops, restaurants, nightclubs, a cinema, and the Arts garden-a performance space suspended over a busy intersection and covered by a glass dome.

The Castleton Square Mall has 130 specialty stores and a food court. The Broad Ripple Village is a charming neighborhood 15 minutes north of downtown, and it features unique and fun furnishings and home accessories.

Major Attractions
Indianapolis has been referred to as the “Crossroads of America.” Four interstates crisscross the city (65, 69, 70, 74). So, it’s easy to get there. While you’re there, there are nice attractions for the entire family. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is the largest children's museum in the world. Exploration of the physical and natural sciences, history, world cultures and the arts are available through interactive exhibits on five floors. There's also a planetarium and a theater with children's plays and live entertainment. The Conseco Fieldhouse is home to the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever. The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is just one of the interesting museums in the city. There’s the Indiana Medical History Museum and the Hall of Fame Museum right on the grounds of the infield at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. At the Indianapolis Museum of Art, you can see the LOVE sculpture by Robert Indiana. You’ll know it when you see it.

Places to go for nightlife include the Athenaeum, which used to be a cultural and social center from the 1890s for citizens in Indianapolis of German descent. Now, the Athenaeum holds restaurants, a  bar, a YMCA, and a band shell. Memorials include the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument and the USS Indianapolis Memorial.
