Lilith Fair: The world's most famous all-female artist music festival returns to Indy July 20

May 23, 2010

The Lilith Fair is named after Lilith, the biblical Adam’s first wife who was the legendary original female half of mankind. Eventually replaced by the compliant Eve for refusing to submit to Adam, Lilith was demonized by cultures for thousands of years.

The Lilith Fair is a celebration of women in music and past artists have included Sheryl Crow, Christina Aguilera, The Dixie Chicks, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot, The Pretenders, Nelly Furtado, Jewel, Queen Latifah, Sheryl Crow, and co-founder Sarah McLachlan.

From 1997 through 1999, the festival played at Noblesville’s Deer Creek Music Center, now known at Verizon Wireless Music Center. Over the years, the festival has raised in excess of $10 million dollars for national and local charities, and Lilith is set to come back to Indianapolis July 20, 2010.

Of its revival, Sarah McLachlan said, “Besides discovering new music everyday and sharing the stage with an incredible array of talented women, it was wonderful to see established and new artists alike have the opportunity to play in front of much larger or more diverse audiences than usual.”

Prior to the summer festival, Lilith and Ourstage organize local talent searches around the country for the next best emerging female solo artists and female-fronted bands in North America. The winners have the opportunity to perform a set on the Lilith tour.

Performers for the 2010 Indianapolis concert include McLachlan, Kelly Clarkson, Suzanne Vega, Miranda Lambert and Mary J. Blige.

HelloMetro Tip: Visit the Lilith Fair website for tickets and to see a full list of all performing artists at Verizon Wireless Music Center. Standard tickets range from $26.50 to $76, but there are also a variety of other package deals that include additional concert amenities.
