Devour Downtown at multiple Indianapolis restaurants

If you’ve ever stared longingly into the restaurant window at the Oceanaire Seafood Room or at the St. Elmo Steakhouse, only to gloomily walk away because of the high prices, then Devour Downtown is certainly the event for you.

Originally started in 2005 as “Indy Restaurant Week,” this week-long event became so popular that it was initially extended to run for two weeks. Over time, the name got changed to Devour Downtown and expanded further to include a Winter and Summer Devour Downtown. The next Devour Downtown takes place this year August 2-15.

Each participating restaurant of this event offers a three-course dinner menu for just $30. Hoosiers and visitors to Indy are given a unique chance to savor the flavor of top-class cuisine at a reasonable price.

Dishes sampled over the three courses include anything from seafood to Bangers and Mash. A set menu at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse might include their famous Shrimp Cocktail with chilled jumbo shrimp, swimming in their spicy New Orleans-style cocktail sauce. Or perhaps Iaria’s Italian Restaurant might include their Chicken Marsala served with mushrooms in a Florio Sweet Marsala Wine Sauce.

With more than 50,000 people taking part each year and contributing more than $500,000 in revenue, it is perhaps no surprise to learn that restaurants are eager to participate and seize the opportunity to develop an entirely new clientele. New additions are added every year and currently include more than 40 restaurants.

Regular participants include the Canterbury Hotel, Barcelona Tapas, Harry and Izzy’s, Champps, Skyline Club, Euphoria, the Weber Grill, the Columbia Club, McCormick & Schmicks.

Winter Devour Downtown usually takes place during late January, while the Summer Devour Downtown always occurs in August. A full list of dates, participating restaurants and menus can be found on the Devour Downtown website.
