The Lawn at White River Park: a top-100 venue
Published: Jun 19, 2009
Bob Dylan, Alison Krauss, the Allman Brothers, Ben Folds, The Roots, Indigo Girls. It's no wonder the Lawn at White River State Park has been named by Pollstar magazine as one of the world's top 100 outdoor concert venues for the three years running.
Many talented artists have graced the stage of this downtown Indianapolis musical venue since its opening in 2003. You can catch a similarly diverse collection of solo acts and bands there throughout 2009; check details and schedules at the Lawn’s website. (You can also buy tickets at the Murat Theatre, where Live Nation handles ticketing for the Lawn.)
The Lawn, which seats approximately 5,000 for its evening concerts, serves as a park during day hours and as a rental location for events. The venue has added 200 VIP seats per performance. (Since those seats sell out quickly, you'll want to book them early.)
The Lawn is part of the White River State Park complex, which includes the Indianapolis Zoo, White River Gardens, Indiana State Museum and IMAX Theater, Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, NCAA Hall of Champions, Victory Field and the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial.
Although there's some nearby parking, the IndyGo Blue Line Downtown Circulator bus runs to the entrance of the Lawn from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. To get updated bus information, check the IndyGo website or call (317) 635-3344.
