Chatham Tap: Grab your pub grub and pint at this English locale

Jun 21, 2010

If you’re in the mood for a tasty bite in a stylish downtown neighborhood pub complete with friendly crowd and an impressive beer list, then Chatham Tap is the place for you.

This large English pub with its hardwood floors and custom made bar, crowned impressively with an archway structure, offers traditional English fare and comfort. The Chatham Tap is situated in the Massachusetts Avenue area, Indy’s hub of shopping, dining, and socializing.

If you miss the English three lions on the Chatham Tap sign before you enter and still have doubts about its nationality, then look to the portrait of Sir Winston Churchill at the entrance, and then glance at the hi-def TVs all screening English premiership and World Cup soccer games. If soccer (or English football!) isn’t for you, then you are more than welcome to watch any of the other sporting games available.

The menu, although not strictly English, is extensive and comes with a healthy selection of salads, burgers, pizzas, and sandwiches. The salad creations range from Salmon Steak to Apple and Candied Walnut while the House Specialty is naturally, Fish and Chips. If you fancy something meaty yet jaw-droppingly scary, try the “Heartstopper” burger with two Angus Beef patties, three cheeses, sautéed mushrooms and onions, a rasher of bacon, egg and mayo.

The beer menu is varied with the focus on English draught beers like Fuller’s London Pride and Wychwood Hobgoblin. Plenty of Microbrew bottles from Indiana too like Barley Island’s Sheet Metal Blonde and Sun King Osiris Pale Ale. For those particularly conscious about the strength of their beer, the alcohol content is conveniently listed on the beer menu.

HelloIndianapois Tip: The Chatham Tap has a non-smoking dining room, but smoking is permitted on the patio. Drink Specials available every night.
