'Return of the Olympians' will match top swimmers
Published: Jun 23, 2009
In what's been dubbed the “Return of the Olympians,” Michael Phelps and a host of other Olympic and championship swimmers reunite in downtown Indianapolis this summer at the 2009 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships & World Championship Trials.
Phelps, winner of a record 14 gold medals at the 2008 Olympics in China, and about 1,000 of the nation's most elite swimmers will compete July 7-11 for a coveted spot on USA Swimming’s 2009 World Championship Team. The winners will represent the United States in Rome at the FINA World Championships to be held July 22-Aug. 2.
The week’s events, being held at the Indiana University Natatorium on the grounds of Indiana University-Purdue University/Indianapolis, include most of the major swimming competitions, including individual medley, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and free relay.
Tickets for the entire event are $55 for adults and $50 for students. (There are a limited number of reserved seats in the first four rows with seat backs and arm rests for $65 each.)
Daily tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. They can be purchased through the USA Swimming web site until June 30, and after that must be purchased directly at the Natatorium box office during the meet. Daily Tickets include entry into both the preliminary and finals events for that day.
In addition to watching the swimmers compete, fans will get the chance to interact with athletics during an autographing session to be held each day from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Natatorium. Still and video photography is allowed at the event, but they may not be broadcast, disseminated or published for commercial purposes.
