Did everyone in the U.S. West once carry six-shooters? What did the cowboys (and cowgirls) eat on the trail? Was the West as wild as it has been portrayed on the Silver Screen? The series “Star Trek: The Next Generation” called it “The Ancient West”. We who are still in the 21st Century still call it the Old West.

But whatever you call it, strap on yer cowboy boots, spurs and lassos, pardner, and prepare for some knee-slappin’ entertainment at this year’s Eiteljorg Museum American Museum of American Indians and Western Art's "WestFest" on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the museum grounds in downtown Indy.

This all-day (sun-up to sun-down) annual family event features real chuckwagons, stagecoach rides, cowboys, Western music, and activities from across the Western Frontier. If you’re a hankerin’ for some real Western experiences, here’s what’s comin’ to this year's festival:

•Toe tappin' Western music

•Gun twirling, rope throwin' cowboys

•John Switzer - buffalo hunter

•Matthew "Bones" Hooks and Hopalong Cassidy – famous cowboys

•Big Boy and his real-life chuckwagon

•Stagecoach rides

•Cow chip tossing

•Bandana and cowboy hat decorating

•Hanging out with horses and other critters

•Leather stamping and tooling

•Cattle roping

•Panning for gold

Call 1-800-622-2024 after Sept. 1 to order tickets and to learn about a special preview on Friday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the studious ones in the family.

Tickets are only 9 bucks for adults, 5 bucks for young-uns 17 and under. Discount tickets are available at Marsh and O’Malia’s supermarkets. Or you can wear your Western duds for $1 off admission on the day of WestFest. See ya then, Cowpoke!
