Smokehouse on ShelbySmokehouse on Shelby: A tribute to the Fabulous Fifties in Fountain Square!Mar 30, 2010It is impossible to talk about Fountain Square’s Smokehouse on Shelby without first mentioning the building that hosts it. The diner is part of the Fountain Square Theatre Building which first opened in 1928 as a place for entertainment, shopping and businesses. Although the building went through some economic changes, it has since been revived and holds two vintage duckpin bowling alleys, two restaurants, rooftop dining and accommodations. Nestling in a corner of this building, the Smokehouse on Shelby is an amazing space to sip on your hand-dipped shakes. The setting is certainly 1950s with giant film posters hung high with titles like “The Party Crashers” and "Diary of a High School Bride." The furnishings are all 50s style with black and white checkered flooring and red walls. The food is distinctly Americana. Begin your meal with the sampler platter including Wings, Ribs and Beer Battered Onion Rings or Potato Skins. Or, try the homemade Brisket Chili or Soup of the Day. The highlight of the Smokehouse menu has to be the hickory smoked St Louis Style Ribs. The ribs are dry rubbed and served with a spicy Chipotle BBQ sauce or a sweet BBQ sauce. Menu choices also include a variety of sandwiches, like the popular Pulled Pork or Fountain Burger. Try the Smoked Chicken Wings -12 Wings with your choice of Raspberry Chipotle BBQ, Sweet BBQ or Hot Sauce. If you have room, get the Apple Pie a la Mode or a Turtle Nut Brownie Sundae for dessert. The Smokehouse still offers hand-dipped shakes and sundaes but also has a fully stocked bar. Why not grab the Bucket of Beer & Wings - Four Domestic Beers of your choice and 18 Wings or an Appetizer Sampler Platter at a discount price.
