Thai CafeOwner and Thai national, Wan Fischer always dreamed of opening his own Thai restaurant. In 1998, he did just that here in Indianapolis, with Thai Café. This award-winning Broad Ripple diner has long been an established part of Indy’s restaurant scene. Using all natural ingredients in the sauces and pastes, the Thai Café heavily favors vegan and food sensitive customers. Wan’s sauces are available nationally and include no tree nuts, dairy, soy, gluten, MSG, emulsifiers or preservatives. Summertime customers may even find themselves munching on his homegrown basil, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, mint, chili peppers and tomatoes. The Thai Café is small but the portions are generous. Kick off with an appetizer like the Yum Salad - grilled beef or chicken seasoned with fresh lime juice, red onions, cilantro, mint leaves, and a spicy sauce. This dish comes with a side of cabbage. For a Vegan option, try the Laab Pok - fresh shredded vegetables seasoned with lime juice, spicy sauce, red onions, cilantro, mint leaves, and ground rice. The Entrée menu includes the Thom Ka - a savory soup prepared with your choice of chicken, shrimp, or tofu, and seasoned with a creamy blend of flavors including coconut milk, lime juice, lemongrass, tomatoes, and cilantro. Or try a true favorite at the Café, a Green or Red Curry with your choice of meat prepared with green or red curry paste, bamboo shoots, green beans, carrots, peas, coconut milk and fresh sweet basil. The Drunken Noodles are rice noodles prepared with vegetables, sweet soy sauce, sweet basil and eggs. All entrees are served with soup/salad or fried noodles. Complete your meal with the Thai Black Rice Pudding, a sweet dessert with a nutty flavor and served with a whipped cream topping. Or try the Thai Tapioca Pudding - Thai tapioca prepared with coconut cream and water chestnuts, served with a whipped cream topping. HelloIndianapolis Tip: If you order take-out, call ahead in plenty of time.
