Monon Food Company: Fish, glorious fish…tacos!

Jun 1, 2010

Now here’s a place that will wet the appetite of serious food and ale lovers. First of all, exclusive to the Monon Food Company in Broad Ripple, get your very own table centerpiece – a mini keg of beer!

Truly a dream come true for any group of thirsty drinkers, customers can get their personal Michigan brewed Oberon beer keg, which serves around 14 heavenly glasses of wheat filled liquid. If that isn’t tempting enough, simply chow down on what are rapidly becoming known as the “best fish tacos in town.”

The location isn’t bad either, with a perfect spot just off the Monon Trail to sit out on the front deck and enjoy the view. Owner Tim Williams certainly knew what he was doing when he moved here from California to create an establishment with a sunny interior adorned with local artwork and a focus on fresh flavor.

Everything from sauces, dressings and baked items are all homemade and cooked in extra-virgin olive oil for a tasty meal packed with goodness.

Peruse the menu if you like or go with the owner’s recommendation of Tim’s Chipotle Fish Tacos. These two soft tacos are generously stuffed with tilapia, a zesty Salsa, guacamole and chipotle mayo. Another highly sought after dish is the delicious Smoked Salmon Wrap filled with fresh veggies and cream cheese. Because the kitchen uses a rotisserie oven, every type of meat at the Monon Food Company is tender and moist through this slow-cooking process. You can put this theory to the test if you like with their rack of Rotisserie Special Pork Ribs, seasoned and slowly cooked to perfection and accompanied with their Monon BBQ Sauce.

The microbrews on offer are impressive with local choices from the Upland Brewery, plus a good range of international lagers and beers.

HelloMetro Tip: The restaurant introduces live music performances from local artists. Check their website for further information.
