paul mccall's Bio
I’ve been drawing since I was two, according to the family legend, when my Mother took me to a PTA meeting when my brother was in the first grade. She put me at a desk, gave me pencil and paper and I started to draw and never stopped.
I began my career as a commercial artist in elementary school. Each student had to take a turn at creating the bulletin board. “Peanuts” and Charlie Brown were all the rage at the time (early 60s) and I was the kid that could draw the characters so I did their boards in exchange for their lunch money.
My professional work experience has encompassed book and magazine illustration; computer graphics for audio/visual presentation companies; production art for movies; fifteen years as an airbrush artist creating illustrations; acrylic and oil painting; portraits and landscapes plus teaching various forms of art. I have been a working artist since 1977.
Currently I am engaged in creating caricatures both live in party situations and commission gift caricatures. While I still create art using conventional tools such as oil paints, I spend a large portion of my business time creating art within the computer, availing myself of the machine’s ability to mimic the qualities of pen, paper and paint while adding the uniqueness of the digital ability to quickly get client feedback via emailed roughs and the deceptively easy ability to make changes without having to restart from scratch.
