Heritage Christian School Reviews

A failed attempt at Christian education for many of the students that they attempt to serve. A core methodology that doesn't focus on science skill building at an early age. The idea of diversity - within race, ethnicity, beliefs and socio-economic levels is lost in a false 'color blind' community. While there are clearly competent teachers within any school, the experience was a collective failure for our family. We take partial responsibility for this mis-match, as we recognized that there was neither the desire, will or commitment to progress nor a desire to see all students achieve their fullest potential. Parents are the first teachers for their precious children and should thus be cautious that everything that glitters is not gold. Leadership turn over, teacher sensitivity to diversity, strategic planning and staff development don't match the stated vision. A costly disappointment although individual gems exist.

Heritage Christian is a wonderful school where students are challenged to work hard. Students are above average in many aspects, and the school excels in many areas such as sports and fine arts. The teachers genuinely care, and there are many teachers who are willing to put down their work and talk for as long as you need to help you with a problem. However, the administration changes every few years.. there is constant drama, rumors, and secrecy. The administration of the high school handles student discipline in a drawn out fashion.. like they are making it a game. There is a hidden culture at heritage that no one knows about or expects. The teachers, activities, and students are fantastic and make it a great place to be, but the administration is just embarrassing.

Our children have been at Heritage for 4 years. My husband and I are products of nearby public schools. I am also the daughter of a public school teacher and public school administrator. Looking at things through these eyes, I am constantly feeling peace with our decision to choose Heritage. It's not perfect, as no school is. But, at it's very core, it is a loving, encouraging, and uplifting environment. The fact that every lesson is scripture-based should be reason enough for a Christian family to choose this route. But, you also can rest on the benefits of knowing this is a college preparatory school that rivals any other private school in the area. Also, most Christian schools don't come close to offering the varied extra curricular activities. Most importantly, the teachers consider this a 'calling' not a job/career. They have been huge blessings in our lives.

This school was good for me at first but now with all the bad leadership changes it's going down the drain for me. The only reason I'm staying is for friends, but even then it's not hard to make new ones at a public school. I personaly HATE the saxson math that they teach there and this is a big enough reason for me to leave. The kids are nice but most have gone there all there life and don't know the real world! The teachers and staff are just the same way, nice, but lack the leadership. The only teacher I can be honest and talk to is Kyle krober. Everyone else is quick to judge and very narrow minded in terms of your beliefs.

My son attended kindergarten at Heritage last year and is currently in first grade. We are thrilled with Heritage. We live in the number one ranked school district in Indiana but we chose to send him to Heritage for the Christian component. I'm guessing some of the negative comments about the Christian element are coming from parents who were looking for a private school for their kids, not a Christian school. The school does a great job of combining academics with sound Biblical teaching. The school is very strict and structured - I think parents who complain about the teaching methods being 'uncreative' may be off put by the structured nature of the school. The teachers my son has had have done some pretty creative and fun things in the classroom. I hope we never have to move because we would be heart broken to have to leave Heritage!

A sadly misguided school and leadership whose methods and attitude toward educating children is outdated and archaic to say the least. Heritage is operated by very misguided 'Christians' who twist the Bible and Scripture to reflect their own philosophy and goals and in the end don't teach or represent healthy, Christ following living. This is not a school that deserves your tuition money, nor should you fall into the false belief that because it is a 'Christian' school it is therefore good and better than the alternatives. This is especially true in regards to academics, progressive teaching methods etc. Many of the teachers and administrators at Heritage attended Bible Colleges that are quite simply inferior academically to more mainstream schools and it shows in their teaching.

For our family, it was a no-brainer to choose Heritage. We have found the school to be emotionally and spiritually enriching and academically rigorous. We chose Heritage for a variety of reasons: it provides a gifted-talented program at a very early age when compared to surrounding schools; it has a multitude of extra-curricular activities and is competitive with other schools in various sports; it has small classes taught by talented and caring people; it produces well prepared students in terms of preparation for college. We plan for our children to be proud graduates of Heritage.

Worst school ever. Dont bring your kids here unless you want them to grow up with a self righteous holier than thou attitude, with a sense of arrogance about them and their suburb friends. All this school does is teach what they call 'non-denominational' views but they force it down your throat. Your kids will come out sheltered and experience a major culture shock when they hit the real world. The way they handle business is terrible and past experiences have proven so. Take your kid to private school before letting them go here. Also tuition is rising every year. Please make the right choice.

Heritage Christian Rocks! My two children has been there for the last 3 years. My daughter did the pre k program and learned to read well at age 4! My son is reading at a post high school level (according to testing) at the end of grade 2 and his math tested at 6th grade level. Focus on Jesus is essential to curriculum. We love our school!

I took my daughter an extra year at her private school to get up to Heritage Christian standards and get admitted. I am very impressed with this school and wouldn't even consider another school for my daughter. This is the best education money can buy in Indianapolis. I have numerous friends who attended Heritage from K-12 and I must say I am impressed that they have a such strong Alumni and how prosperous everyone is. The Teuton is very expensive but that is why private schools work so well. Take a tour of this school and you'll quickly notice that all of the kids are sent there by parents that want to absolute best education for there child. Its such a blessing to see a school that teaches to honor god and to live life as with Christian principles and values.

HCS is an awesome school. Our daughter has been there for 7 years and her standardized test scores are excellent. The teachers, staff and administration have been great Christian role models and mentors for our daughter. The sports program has the goal of developing Christ-like character while developing team building and skill building. The Fine Arts program in all areas is competitive with the best programs in the state of Indiana. If you want your child to have a quality education in a Christian environment that not only prepares them mentally, but also prepares them spiritually, then HCS is a great choice.

Heritage Christian not only attracts and thoroughly educates bright and successful students, but also offers and unprecedented selection and quality of extra-curricular activities and service opportunities. Parents are actively involved in the lives and education of their students, and teachers not only love their students and know their subjects, but also are consummate professionals who excel as educators. Students and faculty love the enivornment Heritage provides, and students, generally speaking, show rare and refreshing enthusiasm and respect. Top notch in every respect. Highly regarded in Indiana for academics. Dominant in the Indy area in many sports. Thoroughly enjoyable to be part of. Unreserved recommendation.

My kids have been at Heritage for 3 years now and our experience has been wonderful. My son spent kindergarten through 2nd grade at our local public school and was reluctant to change but now he says he would never want to go back to his old school. The teachers and students at HCS are so kind and loving. It's a wonderful atmosphere to learn in.

The teachers are pretty nice but I have always had trouble with math and science at hcs... i play basketball and volleyball there, and the thing that my family has trouble with is the organization of things. Such as sports.

Our son began second grade this year after a year at a Carmel elementary. What a difference! I can't say enough about how blessed we are to be part of this school. The teachers are excellent, as well as caring. The principal is amazing. The entire atmosphere is welcoming and warm. A great school.

Coming out of Heritage Christian High School you will have learned how to work hard. However, not as much was learned. Heritage has trouble hiring good Science and English teachers, on the other hand the Bible and History departments are strong and I did grow in my faith there. Anyone can participate in a sport, and that is a strenght of the school. Other than sports and drama there are no clubs and initiating new clubs is discuraged. Clubs are pricelss for college acceptance. There are few student leadership oppertunities available at the school and creates two types of students: those who are always buisy with sports and those who do nothing. Bottom Line: If all you want is your kid at an IVY school: it wont happen. But, if you're okay with your student at an in-state University or College than Heritage is probably the place for you.

Heritage Christian is by far,the best school in Indianapolis!. Every member of the staff exhibit love and a Christ-Like spirit. My daughter was doing poorly in public schooling, now that she is at Heritage Christian, her grades have soared to A's & B's, but what is amazing is that the work is much harder here, yet she still does extremely well. Each staff member from the Principal to the maintenance staff truly care about each and every student. The bible says 'you will know them by their fruits, I can definately attest to the fact that each teacher is guided by the Holy Spirit and acts only out of love and concern for each student and parent.

The best school around! HCS has a small school feeling, with big school opportunities. The teachers truly care for the students (praying for them constantly), the academics are superb, the athletics are wonderful. Not only does the high school principal, Mr. Leinbach care for the students, but he actually knows them. The teachers are truly all about Christ and are ready to help any struggling student to get an A+. We really love it! Christ truly is the center of this school!

This is a wonderful school. The Principal and teachers really care about the students. Their extracirricular activities have great talent, and wonderful people.

This school has been a wonderful experience for my daughter. The smaller class sizes and the one on one kind of attention she recieves has been just what she needed. We came from a public school of 1500 middle schoolers to under 400 middle schoolers at Heritage. It has offered a smaller community feel and more opportunity. She feels as though she matters and she does.
