Center Grove Middle School Central Reviews

I think it is an excelent school Corporation. My kids love to go to school every day..

CGMSC is a fantastic school. We have been very impressed with the education our children are getting.

My child is doing great at CGMSC. They have so many programs that help meet her individual needs. I can't think of a place I would rather have her attend.

CGMSC Is a great school. It provides the students all the education they need. Also If I was a staff member at CGMSC I would love to work at the school. This is the best school ever! It is even better than CGMSN!

Everyone talks about the high ISTEP scores in Center Grove. They should be high; the students spend at least three weeks before the test taking 'practice test' instead of teaching curriculum; I've seen the worksheets every year.

We are very disappointed in Middle School Central, finding it not living up to it's reputation. Our biggest complaint is the quality and consistency of the Teachers. The average student is absolutely ignored! Please do not teach our children that it is always the squeaky wheel that gets oiled-they all need attention and to be treated with fairness and respect. The curriculum is good, but follow thru and individulaized treatment is severly lacking!

I agree with some parts of the reviews posted here. Such as Center Grove being sports minded versus academic minded and that is evident from the 2.5 million dollar outdoor locker facility being built. However I also think that in order for there to be change there has to be more parental involvement. You can't keep sitting back complaining about the school yet not be involved and not vote the yahoos out of the school board when election time comes up. I absolutely agree that Center Grove could do more but how are they supposed to achieve that without parental support and involvement. I have been to the PTO meetings people, and not one of you showed up!Center Grove won't be held accountable until the parents stand up and make them accountable starting with the School Board to the Principals to the Teachers. It can be a great school!

CGMSN ISTEP scores are up great! Yet there is more to a school than scores. The school system is pretty good but they do not come close to being as good as they claim. The school has high expectations for the kids, but not for the staff. There are teachers who should not be teaching: consistently use poor grammar & spelling, criticize kids. Kids working below grade level are made to feel like failures & inadequate. Gifted kids are given extra work. I have 4 children in the system which I rate as a 7 out of 10. Community rates them high but then you discover they are talking about sports not academics. Admin/staff have clouded vision & need to take an in-depth look at what needs improving in order to prepare the kids for the future.

In a data driven world, lets look at some ISTEP data from 2004. There are 234 public middle schools in Indiana that have 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and CGMSN ranked 9th based on the percentage of students passing the language arts portion of the sixth grade ISTEP. There are 310 public middle schools that have 7th and 8th grades. CGMSN seventh grade students ranked 10th in math scores and ranked 17th in language arts. CGMSN eighth grade students ranked 21st in ISTEP language arts scores. Lets look closer at the 7th grade data this year. 21 students went from did not Pass to Pass and 32 went from Pass to Pass+ in math. In language arts, 28 students went from did not Pass to Pass and another 28 went from Pass to Pass+. In just one year, CGMSN has become high achieving school with the data to backup that statement.

Cgmsn has way to many kids to effectively teach each one of them. If your child is gifted they give extra work instead of challenging their minds. If your child is behind the teachers make them feel inadequate & they make sure the rest of the students know that, that child is working below grade level: it is pointed out on a daily basis, yet they do nothing to help the students understand the material, they just make the student feel worthless. So if you are thinking of going here make sure your child is on grade level (normal), not above nor below because the school does not know how to handle any type of challenge. There are many teachers in this building who should not be in the field of education. Oh yes sports are very, very important throughout the system, academics rate low on the agenda.

Center Grove Middle School North is lacking in academic excellence like the rest of the school system. If your child is struggling the teacher's have NO clue as to how to help. The principal gives the impression he wants changes,as in the Language Arts Dept. but the new program does not help those struggling. it just piles on more homework without the review/structure. If you are an athlete you have it made, if you are not on a sports team you are treated like an outcast by the staff. The system ranks itself as top notch, BUT they fail to meet academic expectations. that's why so many home school around the area.
